Crane Lifting Plan Calculator for 5-Ton Steel Beam with Outrigger Bearing
Formula
Utilization = (Gross Load / Rated Capacity) × 100%
Governing Standard
ASME B30.5 — Mobile and Locomotive Cranes, and BS 7121
Required Inputs
- Net Load (beam weight) in tons
- Rigging Weight (slings, shackles, spreader) in tons
- Crane Rated Capacity at working radius in tons
- Working Radius in meters
- Boom Length in meters
Output
Capacity Utilization Percentage and Lift Status (Green/Amber/Red)
Notes
For a 5-ton steel beam with 0.3 tons of rigging, gross load = 5.3 tons. If the crane's rated capacity at the working radius is 8 tons, utilization = 66.25% (Green — safe lift). If utilization > 75%, the lift is classified as 'critical' and requires an Appointed Person sign-off. If > 90%, the lift is 'overload' and must not proceed.
