Rebar Lap Splice Length Calculator for Class B Tension Splice (25mm Bar)
Formula
Ld = (fy × db) / (50 × λ × √fc'); Lap = 1.3 × Ld (Class B)
Governing Standard
ACI 318-19 — Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete
Required Inputs
- Bar Diameter (db) in mm
- Yield Strength (fy) in MPa
- Concrete Compressive Strength (fc') in MPa
- Splice Condition (tension/compression)
Output
Development Length (Ld), Class A Lap, Class B Lap, and Minimum Lap Length
Notes
For a 25mm (db) Grade 60 rebar (fy = 420 MPa) in 30 MPa concrete (fc' = 30 MPa): Ld = (420 × 25) / (50 × 1.0 × √30) = 10,500 / 273.9 = 38.3 × db = 958 mm. Class A lap = 1.0 × Ld = 958 mm. Class B lap = 1.3 × Ld = 1,245 mm. Minimum lap = max(1,245, 40×25=1,000, 300mm) = 1,245 mm. Use Class B for typical tension splices.
